Chopper Worx has been actively involved in the field of High Voltage (HV) power line repairs and preventative maintenance operations for many years. Our personnel are specifically skilled to work in the energised environment of transmission power lines, ranging from 132kV - 765kV.
By matching specific techniques to applications, we are able to provide cost effective solutions in the safest and fastest way. Typical methods employed include the suspension (external load) and helicopter platform mounted method, both of which are also used by leading helicopter utility operators worldwide. Aerial Live Work techniques include replacement and repair of hardware on mid-span phase-conductors, ground wire and towers. Typical services are:
- Conductors:
- Spacers replacement
- Repair sleeves
- Full tension joints
- Joints - resistance measurement
- Vibration dampers: replace/reposition
- Tower hardware repair
- Marker balls installation
- Tower labelling
- Shunt splices
- Airflow spoilers installation
- Replacement of insulators on strain/suspension towers
Some benefits of Aerial Live Line Work
- Production up to ten times faster than conventional techniques.
- All work is carried out under "live" conditions, therefore no need for the customer to switch out lines.
- Exponential improvement of network quality of supply due to economies of scale.
- Smaller work force required carrying out pro-active preventative line maintenance.
- Only the safest world-best practices are employed ensuring the customer's power line integrity is not compromised in any way.
- Access to areas previously regarded as inaccessible.
- Rapid reactive response to repair line faults during outages.
